Giving drugs through feeding tubes

If a patient is receiving continuous or intermittent tube feedings, be aware that gastrointestinal absorption of some drugs, such as phenytoin and carbamazepine, may be affected by tube feeding and feeding formulas. Separate doses from feedings by at least 1 hour. Be sure to flush tube well before and after giving dose.
