A major adverse effect of gold salts is dosage-related loose stools and diarrhea. Geriatric patients receiving gold salts are at higher risk for dehydration and, therefore, must be carefully monitored for dry skin and mouth, central nervous system changes, or tachycardia if reports of diarrhea ensue. |
