Vincristine

Vincristine may cause bladder atony and, therefore, may enhance the effects of other medications that cause urinary hesitancy, especially in elderly men who may already have bladder control problems. If a patient is taking a medication that may cause urine retention, that medication should be discontinued for the first few days of vincristine therapy. Discontinuing the first medication will help determine whether vincristine alone is causing urine retention. If appropriate, the first medication may be added back to the patient’s medication regimen. Close monitoring for urine retention signs and symptoms will be necessary.
