Iron replacement

Excessive iron replacement may cause such signs and symptoms as diarrhea, fever, severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Notify the prescriber promptly if the patient experiences these signs and symptoms and administer prescribed treatments. For this acute condition, treatment may include nonbinding agents (deferoxamine), induced vomiting to produce systemic alkalinization, and anticonvulsants.
