Using antihistamines and phenothiazine antiemetics

Closely monitor geriatric patients for adverse reactions and sensitivity to the usual adult dose of antihistamine or phenothiazine antiemetics. If sensory or perceptual alterations develop, take safety precautions. For example, put the patient's bed in the low position, keep the side rails up, and supervise his ambulation. Monitor the patient for increasing visual or auditory disturbances and their affect on his ability to carry out activities of daily living.
