 Hyperkalemia Drug RecallRoxane Laboratories, Inc. announced a nationwide recall of two lots of sodium polystyrene sulfonate suspension, USP, a drug used to treat hyperkalemia. The recall involves two lots of 15 g/60 ml unit dose bottles: NDC 0054-0165-51, Lot 856396A (expired April 2010) and Lot 856693A (expired May 2010). A sample taken from lot 856396A tested positive for a strain of yeast, which could place immunocompromised patients at risk for infection. Yeast infections can cause thrush, skin rash, or sepsis.
